Ford unwraps Transit-based ‘Big Nugget’ camper van concept…

By: CAR magazine

Ford has taken the covers off its new “Big Nugget” concept, a camper van based on the largest version of the Transit.

Revealed at the 2019 Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, the Blue Oval brand says the concept was created in partnership with camper specialist Westfalia.

The Big Nugget is based on Ford’s long-wheelbase, high-roof Transit, with the automaker claiming it offers 13 cubic metres of interior space with more than two metres of indoor standing height.

The Dearborn-based firm says the Big Nugget concept features four “clearly defined, functional areas”. At the front, the driver and front passenger seats can be rotated towards the dining area, while a separate bathroom area (featuring a fully integrated toilet, washbasin and shower) is found in the middle of the vehicle.

There’s also a kitchenette (complete with two-burner gas stove, a basin and a 70-litre refrigerator), while the bedroom area at the rear features a two-metre-long bed arranged across the vehicle.

Ford says the concept “explores possible features for a Transit-based camper van being considered by Ford for future introduction in European markets”.
