Spanning seven generations and 50 years, the BMW 3 Series has become the ubiquitous choice for a premium sedan. The G20 is now nearing the end of its life after first being unveiled in 2018 at the Paris Motor Show. Moving forward, the G50 3 Series will spearhead BMW’s adoption of the “Neue Klasse” design language, this new aesthetic is characterized by a minimalist approach. Despite the disguise sourced from BMWBlog, the prototype reveals a wider and slimmer kidney grille that integrates with the slender headlights, echoing the design cues of the Vision Neue Klasse concept. This front-end treatment lends the new 3 Series a more angular and assertive stance.
The classic three-box silhouette remains, but the G50 appears to have shed some of the creases and character lines of its predecessor. Flush door handles further contribute to the car’s sleek profile. At the rear, provisional taillights extend onto the boot lid, hinting at a new design that is likely to evolve in the production model. A subtle spoiler lip is integrated into the boot, adding a touch of sportiness.
Notably, the prototype features quad exhaust tips, suggesting that this is likely the M340i performance variant. In line with BMW’s future strategy, only M Performance and M models will sport visible exhaust tips, while other models will conceal them beneath the rear bumper.

Under the bonnet, the G50 3 Series is expected to retain familiar engine options, albeit with potential enhancements for improved efficiency. The current lineup of 2.0-litre turbocharged units is likely to carry over, possibly with the addition of mild-hybrid technology. The M340i will likely continue to be powered by a 3.0-litre straight-six engine. Since it is yet to be unveiled (sometime around 2027), no official information on this is available.
