Munich based BMW has been celebrating half a century for their M Division but the party is just as lively on the other side of German for AMG. The latest Mercedes-AMG GLE Edition 55 celebrates 55 years of the Affalterbach tuner.
This means that the GLE Edition 55 has been revealed and will encompass six different versions available in the 53, 63, 63 S models in both standard and coupe body shape. Similarly to the AMG A 35 and CLA 35 limited edition, nothing under the bonnet changes on any of these models since it is purely a cosmetic package which retails for between €5 950 to €13 090 (R100 000 to R240 000). These will be limited-run models available to the six SUVs in the GLE and GLE Coupe lineup.
Styling changes on the exterior include 22-inch forged cross-spoke wheels with a matte gray finish. The centre caps on these have “Edition 55” surrounding the Mercedes-Benz logo while the body trim between the fenders now has a retro-styled decal with the famous logo that can be finished in either Obsidian Black or Diamond White Bright.
These new models now also come with the AMG Night Package which has exterior trim finished in high-gloss black as opposed to the standard trim. Tinted windows and black chrome plated quad exhaust tips are included in this.
The inside of the Edition 55 limited run series will receive a black and red interior with stainless steel door sills visible when entering the car. The Edition 55 logo will also be woven into the custom floor mats to further differentiate the model from the more standard derivatives. An AMG-branded indoor car cover will also be part of the package,
Each of the six models will be limited to only 55 models although no word on whether South Africa will receive any has been confirmed yet. Mercedes will accept orders for the celebratory Edition 55 until the end of the year.
