The GWM Tank 600 has been revealed as a further extension of the Chinese manufacturer’s expansion of off-road focused SUVs. This model derivative is set to take the stage at this year’s Chegdu Motor Show later this month.
Little information regarding the GWM Tank 600 are available but Kolesa.ru reports that the new large SUV will employ a twin-turbocharged 3,0-litre V6 petrol engine supplemented by a 48-volt battery with a nine-speed automatic transmission. This units is believed to deliver 260 kW and 500 N.m of torque.
A leaked document sourced from Autocar India suggests that the new model will measure 5 050 mm long, 1 934 mm wide and 1 905 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2 850 mm. This will make it slightly larger than the SUV it is being pitted against; the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
The GWM Tank 600 adopts a ladder-on-frame chassis that utilises an independent front axle and solid beam rear axle to give it more of an edge in the off-road sphere. No information regarding the interior has been detailed as of yet.
As it’s understood, the GWM Tank 600 won’t be the largest product to spawn from the brand’s new arm. A larger 700, 800 and X-Cannon model is planned to fight more established SUVs and bakkies in the global market but more information regarding these two projects is yet to be revealed.
