With the rising popularity of the Ora Punk and Ballet Cat, it looks like GWM wishes to dip even deeper into the retro EV sphere with this new project that has been titled the WEY V72. An official reveal of the product has been penned in for later this week at this year’s Chengdu Auto Show.
As reported by naavtotrasse.ru, the only aspect GWM has revealed about the new retro product is its name. The teaser image of the WEY V72 supplied, hits at a design that pays tribute to the 1940s and 50s with its exaggerated front wings with integrated round LED headlamps and a bold bulging bonnet atop a broad chrome grille. The front bumper also sports some chore elements that are reminiscent of that era of design.
For those not familiar, WEY is GWM’s premium design arm is the first Chinese brand named after the company’s founder. It is also the first Chinese luxury SUV brand created by a global team and currently consists of over 1 600 designers and researchers from GWM. The team boasts five-year efforts in line with the highest standards of global luxury brands. The company says that it is not only a symbol or an antonomasia, but also a commitment made by Jack Wey, the founder of WEY brand, in his own name.
With reference to the badge as seen mounted to the grille of the WEY V72 teaser, the unique up-pointing logo is inspired from the landmark building structure, the grand flagpole of Baoding Museum of Zhili Governor’s Office, which is located at Baoding, China, the hometown Wey. The arm says it declares the pursuit and commitment of WEY to be a leading brand of luxury SUV, globally.
