Adding to the growing lineup of the entry-level Jolion model, Haval has now introduced two new HEV models for prospective buyers, with competitive pricing of just over half a million rand. Here is specification and pricing!
This is in an effort to make hybrid motoring more accessible to the South African public according to Haval. So, what is now on offer from the Chinese manufacturer with the launch of the self-charging hybrid electric model? First and foremost, the Jolion HEV will serve as the flagship model, taking the reigns from the recently unveiled S model. Not their first foray into the combined world of fuel and electric propulsion, Haval has shoehorned their electric charging system into their entry-level model.

Retaining a 1,5-litre motor, in normal, sedate driving conditions, the hybrid model will seamlessly activate the electric motor only for duty. With increased speed and more enthusiastic acceleration, the inbuilt system will activate the internal combustion engine to provide extra grunt. Haval claims that their new HEV can seamlessly transfer between configurations including EV, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid and Regeneration depending on the driving conditions and driver input.
A Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) combines the outputs of the internal combustion engine and the hybrid system with a total power output of 140 kW and 375 N.m. More impressively, Haval claims that this compact HEV SUV can achieve as little as 5,0 L/100 km which makes it the most frugal in the lineup.
On the outside, the hybrid model from Haval is also distinguishable from the front by LED Premium Vision headlights and fog lights, a diamond-styled front grille and an updated front bumper. Moving towards the rear, the model incorporates silver roof rails while the rear has flared brake lights and an updated rear diffuser. Buyers will have the choice of 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels depending on the specification.
Speaking of which, the new HEV is available in either Luxury and Super Luxury grades. Both are equipped with heated front seats, a six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat and a four-way mechanically adjustable front passenger seat. In addition, smart keyless entry with push button start, a panoramic sunroof, a 7-inch colour instrument cluster and wireless charging is standard on both additions to the lineup. The luxury model incorporates a 10,25-inch infotainment screen while the top-spec Super Luxury pushes that size up to 12,3-inch accompanied by a Head-Up Display.
