Kia Motors South Africa has confirmed which vehicles it plans to launch locally in the first half of 2021.
The Korean firm’s local division says it will kick off the new year with the arrival of the facelifted Picanto in January. As a reminder, a refreshed version of the little city car was revealed in May 2020. The following month, Kia SA said it was considering including new GT-Line and X-Line variants in the local line-up.
The Indian-built Sonet – which is about the size of its Hyundai Venue sister vehicle – is scheduled to arrive in SA in April, with the small newcomer slotting into Kia’s crossover range below the already popular Seltos. Kia SA says more information about SA-spec powertrain and transmission options “will be released closer to the local launch date”.
Finally, the new Grand Sedona has been pencilled in for a May 2021 local launch, though the SA-spec model is interestingly expected to switch to the Carnival badge used in many other markets. The fourth-generation version of Kia’s big MPV is noticeably larger than its predecessor and gains a vastly upgraded cabin. Local engine options have yet to be announced.
