If you are unfamiliar with Hispano Suiza, it is worth knowing that the Spanish automaker was at the top of the pecking order a century ago. Looking to emulate their success in the electric era, we can expect to see the vintage styled Carmen Boulogne at Monterey this month.
Like many automakers that didn’t adapt from high performance, luxury vehicles at the end of the second world war, Hispano Suiza eventually became defunct – among other reasons. That is until 2019 when the electric hypercar named Carmen was revealed to the world and the lucrative nameplate was brought back from the dead. A year later the Carmen Boulogne broke cover and that is what Hispano Suiza will have on display at Monterey Car week. With production limited to only 24 units, Hispano Suiza hopes for this model to reignite the legacy of what made them great – particularly in the interwar period.

This era was undoubtedly their most vibrant, creating thousands of ICE powered luxury vehicles and aircraft engines between their inception in 1904 and 1946. Their latest attempt in the electrified hypercar era boasts a vintage styled Carmen Boulogne which has 820 kW and 1 600 N.m on tap. Enough to propel the limited run retro model to 100 km/h in 2,6 seconds and onto 290 km/h. There may be quicker accelerating and faster moving electric hypercars on the market, but this one scratches the itch of exclusivity for a brand that is steeped in history and opulence.
Earlier this year, the first Carmen Boulogne model was delivered to its new owner and collector; Michael Fux. The Monterey Car Week display of Hispano Suiza will present the thousands of public in attendance to feast their eyes on the exclusive model.
Taking place between the 17th – 21st of August, the Carmen Boulogne is sure to make the 2022 Monterey Car Week one to remember.
