The N division by Hyundai has been in the works for quite some time with a couple of hints of its developments showing up here and there. This weekend however, we may be set to witness a production scale model in action at the Nürburgring 24 Hours. Its appearance at this event aims to provide technical data to benefit the new division.
The car that is set to participate was built by the German-based Hyundai dealership. 40% of what we will see on this performance based i30 will be new with most of the focus being on the turbocharged 2,0-litre engine. The i30 also makes use of an enhanced suspension, dampers, more dynamic wheels, a revised steering system, wider bumpers and mandatory motorsport safety features for the race.
Despite being developed at this weekend’s event, Hyundai hasn’t confirmed if it will be a production-scale N model despite a similar looking i30 being spied testing on the Nürburgring on more than one occasion. This model is also rumoured to produce 193 kW and 308 N.m of torque.
Hyundai’s endurance focused test driver Bruno Beulen will be piloting the mysterious i30 around the ‘ring this weekend alongside Michael Bohrer, Alexander Köppen and Rory Pentinnen. They have all confirmed that the main goal for this race is to provide a technical analysis on the new performance car.
