The Hyundai Kona N has been revealed as the brand’s first performance crossover with a track-focused suspension, turbocharged engine, dual-clutch transmission and uncompromised SUV versatility.
Powering the new super crossover is the same T-GDi 2,0-litre four-cylinder engine found in the Hyundai i30 N which pushes 206 kW and 392 N.m of torque. The Hyundai Kona N is available exclusively with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with three high-performance functions; N Power Shift, N Grin Shift, and N Track Sense Shift.
Together with a claimed mass of 1 510 kg, the Kona N will sprint from 0-100 km/h in 5,5 seconds. The top speed has been set at 240 km/h.
For improved dynamics on track, the Kona N boasts an electronically controlled suspension and electronic front differential alongside a performance-focused electronic stability and traction control, electrically assisted power steering and the N Power Sense Axle at the front combined with a multi-link type rear suspension.
To make the Hyundai Kona N look likes it belongs on the track, it has been given a number of N-exclusive red accents, body-coloured claddings and fenders, a set of 19-inch alloy wheels with Pirelli P-Zero tyres and an exclusive front grille mesh design with an integrated N logo.
At the side, the compact performance crossover boasts a sporty silhouette with its lowered ride height while the rear shows off a large double-wing roof spoiler with a triangular third brake light. A red accent and two large exhaust tailpipes have been added to the rear diffuser for an added element of sportiness.
To celebrate its arrival, Hyundai created a new Sonic Blue shade for the Kona N. This is joined by Phantom Black Pearl, Atlas White, Cyber Grey Metallic, Dark Knight Grey Pearl, Ignite Red and Performance Blue.
Within the cabin, the Hyundai Kona N has been optimised for performance with its N-exclusive sports steering wheel boasting two customisable N buttons and paddle shifters. The manual handbrake has been covered in non-slip perforated leather and a thicker grip to ensure more secure braking performance.
The exclusive N colour package features a pair of one-tone black with cloth, leather, or suede sports bucket seats with pronounced side bolsters for excellent lateral support. All three seat types come with standard heated front seats and optional heated rear seats, and the suede trim comes additionally with standard electric power seats, which is optional for cloth and leather. Suede seats additionally come standard with ventilated front seats for added comfort, which is also optional for leather.
