Happy N Day! To celebrate another year in the making, Hyundai’s top-notch performance and motorsport division — Hyundai N — have unveiled what could be one of the most exciting concept cars showcased in the last decade. Charging toward the high-performance electric future at break necks speeds is the Hyundai N Vision 74 concept.
The future is electric, or at the very least, it’s going to be filled with an abundance of electric cars as far as the eye can see. Forget the idea that EVs have no soul or character because the N Vision 74 concept oozes with all that and more. As an homage to the 1974 Hyundai Pony concept, the Vision 74 concept is a near-futuristic high-performance hydrogen fuel-cell powered sports car.
At its core are two rear-mounted electric motors producing 500 kW (250 kW to each wheel) and 900 N.m. Alongside the dual motors is a torque vectoring control unit that aids in what would be a heavy EV’s ability to corner ad do so efficiently.
To ensure that the power transfer between the fuel stacks and the battery is as smooth and effective as possible, Hyundai has integrated a control system between the front and rear axles to manage power distribution.
These motors are supported by a 62.4 kWh battery utilizing 800V fast-charging infrastructure mated to a hydrogen powertrain consisting of a second-generation fuel stack on the front axles and 2 4.2 kg hydrogen tanks above the electric motors.
These hefty tanks allow the Vision 74 concept to travel for over 600 km. The N Vision 74 concept has impressive charging capabilities. Hyundai N claims that it can recover 80% charge within 5 minutes.
To offset any unwanted battery derating, as a result of high temperatures, Hyundai has integrated a number of cooling units and systems to help dissipate and negate heat. Aside from aerodynamic elements like the rear spoiler, front and rear diffuser, and side skirts, the Vision 74 concept uses individual cooling systems located on the hydrogen fuel stacks, battery and power electric module.
The N Vision 74 concept gentrifies the 1974 Hyundai Pony concept’s figure on the exterior and in the interior while being firmly rooted in a classic design language.
The interior maintains the piston-shaped cockpit as in the 1974 Pony but with modern elements such as a racing steering wheel, digital dash, and Hyundai Blue details to bring the cockpit into a new era of design.
