To be launched in late 2016, this is what the Golf VIII is likely to look like.
Is it really an all-new car?
Sort of. It’ll still be built on the VW group’s highly regarded MQB platform and, just like the seventh-gen Golf was over the sixth-gen Golf, this too will be more of an evolutionary upgrade than any major change in look. After all, why would VW do anything drastic… this is a very successful model and it remains their bread-and-butter offering. If ever the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” maxim applies, it’s here.
Still, it will be called the Golf VIII, and given that VW’s design language is looking ever more angular these days, we can expect these sharper lines seen in this rendering by motor1.com in the next-generation Golf.
Expect the big changes to be inside
As we saw on the recent Golf R Touch concept, expect a fully Digital instrument cluster that will replace the current touchscreen display, knobs and buttons. The system will also feature gesture control that will likely use three displays and five sensors in the interior with the current central display replaced by a large 13-inch screen.
It’s likely the Golf VII will make it’s debut at next year’s Paris Motor Show in October and go on sale in early 2017.
