It’s likely the second-generation VW Amarok bakkie will be launched in 2017… and this is what it could look like.
The rendering has been done by Malaysian “automotive manipulator” Theophilus Chin, who has referenced the VW CrossBlue concept for its styling cues. First seen at the 2014 Detroit show, the CrossBlue concept is a mid-sized SUV aimed specifically at the US market. It has subsequently been confirmed for production – to be built in the US – and will hit showroom floors in 2016.
With the launch of the face-lifted Ford Ranger in October and the all-new Toyota Hilux early next year, the VW Amarok is about to go from new kid on the block to the old guy at the party. Its successor is still a way off and sales around the globe are still strong, but with the likes of even Mercedes-Benz announcing they will build a double-cab, this market segment looks to be growing.
Chin’s imagining of the next-gen. Amarok shows a double-cab that’s a little shorter than the current vehicle, with a more compact load bay.
