Isuzu has whipped the wraps off the all-electric D-Max, with the UK arm of the Japanese automaker saying the D-Max electric vehicle (EV) was designed for those who demand power, practicality and durability.

Isuzu’s emissions-free D-Max, which is available in Extended Cab and double-cab body styles, employs a duo of electric motors, sited at the front and rear, respectively. The fore and aft units produce 43 kW/108 N.m and 97 kW/217 N.m for a combined peak power and torque output of 140 kW and 325 N.m. Power is sent to a full-time four-wheel-drive system. (As a reminder, the 3.0-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel D-Max churns out 140 kW and 450 N.m.)

The Japanese manufacturer claims the (2 350 kg) D-Max completes the 0-100 km/h dash in 10.1 seconds, a figure some three-tenths of a second quicker than what the 3.0TD 4×4 V-Cross derivative recorded on our test strip for our September 2022 road test in CAR magazine. The electric D-Max’s top speed is rated at “over” 128 km/h.
The new-energy D-Max is equipped with a 66.9 kWh battery pack, which allows for AC and DC charging of up to 11 and 50 kW, respectively. According to Isuzu, a 0-100% AC charge takes 10 hours, while a 20-80% fast charge takes one hour. When replenished, the lithium-ion item offers a claimed (WLTP) operating range of 263 km.

The battery-electric D-Max measures 5 280 mm long, front to rear, and 1 870 mm in width, making it 53 mm shorter and 10 mm narrower than the current-generation diesel-powered D-Max. The wheelbase remains the same, though, at 3 125 mm. The approach and departure angles are 30.5 and 24.2 degrees, respectively.
The all-electric D-Max sports a ground clearance of 210 mm and a wader-fording depth of 600 mm, 22 mm and 200 mm less than what’s offered by its turbodiesel V-Cross sibling. However, the new-energy Isuzu matches the latter’s braked towing capacity (3 500 kg), while offering a payload capacity of “over” one tonne.
Said Yasuhiro Takeuchi, Executive Vice President of Isuzu Motors International Operations (Thailand):
“We have engineered a fully electric pick-up that truly performs in real-world working environments, offering the same towing, payload, and all-terrain capability customers expect from the D-Max.”
