As we reported, the JAC T9 double-cab bakkie will be coming to South Africa as a flagship offering from the Chinese manufacturer. The South African arm has now confirmed some details regarding its local introduction and specifications.
While an exact date is yet to be confirmed, the JAC T9 double-cab bakkie will be available in South Africa by the first half of 2022. Pricing is also to be confirmed as many factors are currently playing a role, says the South African arm of the Chinese brand. The fluctuation in the South African Rand and US Dollar exchange rate is one of these factors. Regardless, the brand confirms that it will be competitively price and aims to compete in a tough bakkie market. It will also include the firm’s five-year/60 000 km service plan and five-year 150 000 km warranty.
Where standard features are concerned, it’s understood that the JAC T9 double-cab bakkie will come to South Africa fully equipped with all bells and whistles fitted. This consists of LED headlamps and foglamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, a metal sports bar, an electronic locking tailgate and keyless entry.
Within the cabin, the bakkie houses a 10,4-inch touchscreen infotainment system (which includes the climate controls), a nine-inch digital instrument cluster, leather upholstery complemented by select plastic and wooden trims, six-way electronically adjustable driver’s seat and four-way electronically adjustable passenger seat, multifunction steering wheel and wireless smartphone charging.
Other convenience features include an electronic parking brake, push button start, a sunroof, ISOFix anchoring and air vents for the rear compartment. Currently, four colours are available for the exterior paint; red, black, silver and blue but more shades will be added eventually.
As noted, the JAC T9 double-cab bakkie will employ a turbodiesel 2,5-litre four-pot sourced from Isuzu that delivers 141 kW and be mated to a six speed manual gearbox exclusively with an automatic transmission planned to be implemented at a later stage. The Chinese bakkie also adopts a 4×4 system and a fully independent suspension setup.
