The Toyota Corolla Cross that will be sold to the Japanese market has been revealed with a bold new face. Everything else noted for the new crossover seems to be in-line with the offering provided to our local market, with a number of spec differences here and there.
The model pictured here has been dubbed the Toyota Corolla Cross Z which will enter the Japanese range as the hybrid option which employs the brand’s naturally aspirated 1,8-litre four-cylinder 2ZR-FXE petrol engine mated to an 1NM AC synchronous electric motor that sources power from a 6,5 Ah nickel-metal hydride battery pack.
Like our model, the Japanese-spec Toyota Corolla Cross offers 487 dm3 of boot space. The tailgate also boasts a hands-free functionality which can be operated by placing your foot under the rear bumper. A luggage active box is also installed for users that wish to store valuables out of sight. This can be shut flat to open up more luggage space with a goal to offer the potential for a wide range of luggage space layouts.
The Japanese arm describes the Toyota Corolla Cross design to be a combination of urban luxury and SUV excitement. Using urban and active principles, the new SUV claims to boast commanding proportions that are contrasted by a relaxed upper body which includes glass surfaces and head- and taillamps. This is contrasted by a set of wide and stable bumpers. Eight different colours will be available for this model.
The cabin of the Japanese-spec Toyota Corolla Cross boasts an array of LEDs for illumination to enhance the feeling of luxury and sophistication. This is complemented by a set of sporty front seats with slim backs for enhanced support.
The Toyota Corolla Cross that will be assembled at the Takaoka plant will come standard with the brand’s safety sense package that includes key features such as parking brake support and a rear parking sensor.
Hybrid versions of the Toyota Corolla Cross will also benefit from an accessory power outlet and an emergency power supply mode that can be used during blackouts. This system is strong enough to power essential appliances such as electric kettles and hair dryers.
