In partnership with distributor Salvador Caetano Auto South Africa, JMC has re-entered the SA market with the Vigus bakkie.

JMC has officially relaunched in South Africa, with the Chinese marque’s initial local product offering comprising its Vigus range of double- and single-cab bakkies. Along with the firm’s new partnership with distributor Salvador Caetano Auto South Africa, JMC intends to establish around 40 dealerships nationwide by 2026, while the current-generation Vigus will now be delivered to the brand’s first dealerships.
The JMC Vigus will be available with the choice of two powertrain options – the single-cab with a 103 kW/310 N.m 2.4-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, and the double-cab with a 104 kW/350 N.m 2.0-litre turbodiesel with the same number of cylinders. Coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the latter unit delivers power to the road via either a 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrain.
Both models boast a load capability close to a tonne and a braked towing capacity of 2 000 kg. The double-cab measures 5 305 mm in length, 1 905 mm in width, and 1 835 mm in height. The latter model also sports double-wishbone independent front suspension, with the rear setup being of the leaf-spring variety.
The Vigus features a 9.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, a reverse camera and rear parking sensors depending on specification.
The double-cab Vigus will be sold with a five-year/100 000km warranty and three-year/50 000km service plan. Pricing has yet to be announced for the three-model Vigus range, though JMC has stated it is targeting a starting price of R300 000.
