There is another in the growing world of the Restomod, and it’s an Italian… from Group B, called the EVO37.
Meet the Kimera Automobili EVO37, or at least what we can see of it right now. A Restomod Lancia 037 that will be built by a team comprised of many of the engineers that made the original car what it was.
The EVO37 is said to be an authentic evolution of the original Lancia on which it is based. This does not mean however that these cars will be built off of donated 037 chassis, no, they are entirely new. It will utilise the same recipe, along with the same proportions, as the old car. Rear mid-engined and rear driven, albeit with a new engine, a turbocharged four cylinder, that is being re engineered in-house.
That section of the project is being overseen by Claudio Lombardi, an ex Ferrari Formula 1 engineer. He has designed championship winning engines for Lancia, Ferrari and Aprilia, including the Ferrari V12 that powered the ’94 and ’95 F1 cars.
The Chassis side of the project is being headed up by another man by the name of Sergio Limone, who is an Italian engineer that has been heavily involved with Lancias in rallying. On his resume lie some cars you might be familiar with, Lancia 037, Delta S4, Delta WRC car, Alfa Romeo 155 and 156 Touring cars. He should know a thing or two about chassis balance.
Speaking of big names, contributing to this project there are some companies you may know that are lending a helping hand. Sparco, Maps, Bonetto CV, Lam Stile, Cielle Tronics, Belassi and Italtecnica.
Kimera says it will be “exactly as if the road car, that gave rise to the Group B winning car, had been conceived today”, and with the resources and experience they have we expect as such, if not better.
Only 37 will ever be made, of which 11 are already spoken for, and will be built to be enjoyed on the road. The 22nd of May is a date to make note of as that’s when the car will be officially revealed. We’ll make sure to keep you up to date.
