Images of a Volvo S90 scale model have emerged on the web and they could well be of what the actual car will look like when the Swedes launch it in 2016.
Spotted on a Chinese website, it is, according to Swedish auto magazine Teknikens Värld’s sources, the real deal. Remember that both images of a model Dodge Viper SRT and current-geneneration Mercedes-Benz S-Class seen on the web ahead of both vehicles’ launch proved the scale models to be authentic.
Set to replace the aging S80, Volvo’s flagship sedan will take on the Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5-Series and Jaguar XF, and will be built on the same SPA platform that debuted on the Volvo XC90. It too will feature Volvo’s Drive-E four-cylinder petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid engine range.
As predicted, the new S90’s styling is heavily influenced by the beautiful Concept Coupe with its sleek headlights and distinctive cool Thor’s Hammer LED daytime running lights. Big C-shaped taillights are also design elements from the Concept Coupe and, with its sloped roofline and raked rear window, this looks like a very elegant execution.
