The folks over at Steve’s Auto Clinic reckon that the 4,5 D-4D V8 turbodiesel mill lurking beneath the Toyota Land Cruiser 200’s bonnet could do with a little more grunt.
So, after “countless hours spent on the dynamometer”, the local tuner has released a tuning package for the Land Cruiser 200, dubbing the resulting vehicle “The Beast” (which is a name far less cringeworthy than that applied to some of its other products, including the “Texas Walker” Ford Ranger, “Mission Impossible” Volkswagen Amarok or “Lekker Ou Jan” Isuzu KB).
In standard form, the Toyota’s force-fed V8 makes 173 kW and 615 N.m. And after the power upgrade? Well, Steve’s Auto Clinic reckons the result is “around 200 kW and 900 N.m”.
The package includes the tuner’s usual Unichip Plug and Play conversion, which offers five different engine maps: standard, fuel economy, off-road/towing and two power modes (the latter the full-fat “beast mode”).
The tuner says it also offers a big-bore exhaust “and other specialist tweaks” for the Land Cruiser. Take note, as always, that such work would result in the voiding of one’s manufacturer warranty.
