The Woking firm has confirmed that it will launch a spider version of their “entry-level” McLaren 570S next year. And there’s rumours of a GT body style in the pipeline too.
The new car will feature the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 used in the 570S coupe. It is, of course, also the same basic engine that the 650S uses, but here (like the 570S) it’s in 419 kW and 600 N.m tune. It was also use the 570S’s seven-speed SSG.
The 570S coupe will sell for R3 150 000 in South Africa and, based on UK pricing, we expect the McLaren 570 Spider to be around 15% more.
Expect similar performance figures too. For the 570S coupe, McLaren quote a top speed of 328 km/h, a 0-100 km/h time of 3.2 seconds, and a 0-200 km/h time of 9.5 seconds
There seems to be yet another body style in the pipeline for the 570S as well… a GT. According to Autocar, it will be “an all-new bodystyle” that will offer more storage with “minor styling changes.” However Car and Driver say their source at McLaren says it will “look more like an E-Type than the Jaguar F-Type does”.
Let’s see who is right…
