Toyota has revealed its new Corolla Apex Edition, a limited-edition model that looks set to remain exclusive to North American market.
Limited to 6 000 units, the package provides the Corolla Sedan with aggressive styling and a revised suspension setup.
The body kit consists of a front spoiler, foglamp covers, side skirts, a rear diffuser and a boot spoiler, all finished in black with bronze accents. A set of 18-inch alloy wheels painted in gloss black adds to the character. Inside, the SE model sports premium cloth upholstery while the higher-spec XSE gains SofTex upholstery.
While the naturally aspirated 2,0-litre petrol engine remains standard (with outputs of 125 kW and 200 N.m of torque), Toyota has fitted a specially developed catback exhaust with a custom stainless-steel tailpipe for added attitude. Interestingly, some 120 of the 6 000 units, in SE grade only, will sport a six-speed manual gearbox, with the remainder shipping with the Japanese firm’s CVT.
Toyota says revisions have been made to the steering and suspension systems. Fitted with a set of model-specific coil springs and “specially tuned” shocks, the Corolla Apex Edition rides 15 mm lower than standard models. The electronic power steering, meanwhile, has been tuned to match the suspension changes and create a more direct feeling.
