Two weeks ago we saw the reveal of the AMG C63 Coupe. Today Mercedes has unveiled the Edition 1, a limited and visually extreme version of the standard C63 S Coupe. The visual upgrades include a Magno Selenite Grey matte paintjob with yellow film coating accompanied by a yellow racing stripe livery through the roofline, door mirrors and above the rocker panels. To match this look the Edition 1 has also received a set of extra-light matte black double five-spoke forged wheels and high performance ceramic compound brake disks.
In addition a high-gloss black AMG Aerodynamics Package is also available. This package includes a larger front spoiler, side skirts, lateral airflow breakaway edges in the rear apron, a rear diffuser and several other minor trimmings. Within the cabin, the Edition 1 attains the AMG Performance seats upholstered in Nappa leather with yellow stitching and trimmings. The steering wheel will also be upholstered in the DINAMICA microfibre seen in most of the brand’s AMG cars.
The 4,0-litre biturbo V8 engine remains in the Edition 1 with power options ranging from 350 kW to 375 kW. To further enhance the Edition 1 driving experience this coupe will also feature the AMG Ride Control suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers and the AMG Dynamic Select transmission modes with a rear-axle limited-slip differential.
The Edition 1 draws a lot of styling inspiration from the DTM race car that was revealed by the coupe’s side. Based on the coupe’s platform the 1 120 kg DTM competitor features the usual wide-body kit seen in all of the cars that compete in the German championship. The front splitter, large spoiler and extended arches help form its aggressive image and provide it with the downforce it needs. Under the hood is the same base engine as found the C63, delivering 360 kW/500 N.m from the 4,0 litre V8. The DTM will sit on a wide set racing grade 18-inch aluminum wheels to help keep it on the track.
The structure of the DTM racer is based on a carbon fiber monocoque with a steel safety roll-cage. Various panels and parts of the DTM have also been replaced with carbon fibre in an attempt to create a light-weight product. Mercedes aims to test the C63 DTM within the next few months before its planned debut in the 2016 season.
