Mercedes-AMG has officially pulled the wraps off the CLE 53 4Matic+ Coupe for the local market, which now exists to create a cohesive whole between the sportier C-Class and more luxurious E-Class. Most importantly, under the bonnet is a reworked 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine which puts out 330 kW and 560 N.m. An overboost for short bursts pushes the torque figure up to 600 N.m. AMG credits the engine gains from a new exhaust gas turbocharger and an additional electric compressor. Complementing this is a second-generation integrated starter generator (ISG), delivering an additional 17 kW and 205 N.m while powering a 48-volt electrical system. All of this is sent to all corners via the AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission and fully variable AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive. Claimed 0-100 km/h is listed at 4.2 seconds, while the electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h can be increased to 270 km/h with the optional AMG Driver’s Package.

Mercedes-AMG has mentioned that the CLE 53 benefits from sharpened handling courtesy of AMG Ride Control, which features adaptive damping with a three-stage AMG steering setup. The rear-axle steering is standard, and reduces the turning radius at low speeds at stability at high speeds. The onboard AMG Dynamic Select computer can be toggled between driving modes, including Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual.
In terms of presence, the CLE 53 features signature AMG styling, with the forward-sloping “Shark Nose” front end concealing LED headlights and an AMG grille. The haunches have been increased in comparison to the standard coupe and are home to 19-inch wheels as standard, with a wider track on both front and back, but the German automaker can fit optional 20-inch wheels and the AMG Optics Package for buyers wanting more bark. Around back, a dark red strip connects the LED taillights, while round dual tailpipes and an integrated spoiler lip further distinguish this 53 badged model.

Inside, the CLE 53 is reminded to continue the luxury aesthetic of the E-Class ethos. That aside, Mercedes-AMG add that there is no shortage of sporty features, with AMG-specific sports seats. Optional Nappa leather upholstery with embossed AMG crests and available AMG performance seats with ventilation cut-outs elevate the experience further. Cited ahead of the driver is a 12.3-inch digital driver display and an 11.9-inch central touchscreen running the latest generation MBUX infotainment system, complete with AMG-specific graphics, telemetry, and drive mode visualisations. Ambient lighting in 64 colours flows across the dashboard and doors.
