Brabus has made a habit of building crazy tuned Mercedes-AMG G63 models (remember the 515 kW 700 Widestar pack from 2018?). And the latest is this: the Brabus 800 Widestar.
As the name suggests, this derivative delivers 588 kW (or 800 hp) plus a towering 1 000 N.m of torque, figures up from the standard G63‘s 430 kW and 850 N.m. The 800 Widestar gets its extra power from the fittingly named PowrXtra performance upgrade that is applied to the thundering twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8. This includes two new turbochargers with a larger compressor unit, a modified core assembly and reinforced axial bearings.
With these changes (and some ECU tinkering), Brabus claims its 800 Widestar can hit 100 km/h from standstill in 4,1 seconds (a four-tenths improvement over the standard model’s claimed time), with top speed limited to 240 km/h (up from the standard 220 km/h) “due to the high vehicle weight”. The G63 retains its nine-speed automatic torque-converter and Mercedes-AMG’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. To make the V8 even louder, the 800 Widestar gains a stainless steel exhaust system with actively controlled flaps.
The widebody version (complemented by 23-inch forged wheels wrapped in high-performance rubber in 305/35 R23 size) boasts fender flares that add a full 100 mm to the width of the vehicle. In addition, their integrated LEDs illuminate the running boards between the flares as soon as a door handle is pulled or the central locking system is activated.
Brabus says the cabin can also be customised to suit the vehicle owner’s personal preferences, with an “endless” choice of colours for the leather- and Alcantara-trimmed elements.
