Mercedes-Benz has revealed its facelifted E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet models, refreshing the two-door Mercedes-AMG E53 variants at the same time.

So, what’s new? Well, the LED headlamps have been handed flatter housings, while the interior of the LED taillamps has been reworked and a new grille adopted. Four fresh paint colours have been added to the mix, too, along with more alloy wheel designs (including a fresh “aero” option).

The powertrain line-up, meanwhile, gains electrified petrol and diesel engines, along with new driving assistance systems, the MBUX infotainment system (with two 10,25-inch displays as standard and a pair of 12,3-inch items as an option) and a new generation of “intelligent” steering wheels.

The addition of a 48 V on-board partial electrical system with a recuperation function and integrated starter-alternator offers extra boost (something the Stuttgart-based firm calls “EQ Boost”). This tech has been rolled out to various mills in the range, although the planned engine line-up for South Africa has yet to be confirmed.

So, what about the all-paw E53 variants? Well, they have also been handed a makeover, including a “thoroughly enhanced” interior that “demonstrates even more affinity to the AMG family”.

As it does in the sedan, the electrified, twin-turbo 3,0-litre engine generates peak outputs of 320 kW and 520 N.m, with the EQ Boost starter-alternator briefly adding 16 kW and 250 N.m. The E53 Coupé will hit 100 km/h in a claimed 4,4 seconds, while the Cabriolet will take two-tenths longer. The electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h can be increased to 270 km/h by specifying the AMG Driver’s Package.
