Following yesterday’s tease, Mercedes-Benz has revealed its Generation EQ Concept at this year’s Paris Motor Show. What you get here is a sporty CUV which also happens to be an EV.
The design is quite a distance away from its current philosophy but, as far as EV concepts go, it’s not that unusual. It has the blue LED front grill, slim headlamps and digital door mirrors just like you’d expect to see on most EV concepts nowadays.
The interior also looks to fall in line with other EV concepts. it is very digital and touch-sensitive as it adopts a reworked version of the dash found in the current S-Class.
What is different about the Generation EQ, is the proposed drive system. It makes use of a modular battery system which can deliver a total of 300 kW and 700 N.m of torque to all four wheels based on your configuration.
The battery range is claimed to be a not so unusual 500 km as it makes use of a 70 kWh lithium-ion battery. Apart from the usual plug-point, the battery can also be charged through solar panels found on the Generation EQ’s roof. Wireless charging is also featured.
This platform, which makes use of steel, aluminium and carbon fibre, will be the basis of all future EV models from Mercedes-Benz.
This concept is not autonomous but it is packed with driver assists such as a semi-autonomous driving system, car-to-X communication and an intelligent driver assist which offers you live-readings of the car’s consumption.
