Mercedes EQC 400 crossover SUV becomes the first to bear the EQ badge and it is now available in South Africa, no light responsibility for the next chapter of mobility at the historic German automaker. Here is local pricing and specification for the new model.
Coming to South African shores in one level of trim, Mercedes touts the EQC 400 newcomer as a dynamic SUV that will boast an edge over its rivals. Mark Raine, Co-CEO of Mercedes-Benz South Africa and Executive Director of Mercedes-Benz Cars South Africa stated that “This crossover SUV with a dynamic and modern look as well as a striking avant-garde design offers the latest technology and a sophisticated operating system.”

On the powertrain side of things, the EQC is being launched in a single derivative – the 400 4MATIC which features an all-wheel drive system courtesy of an electric motor on each axle. To reduce power consumption and increase dynamism, the electric drivetrains are configured differently: the front electric motor is optimised for the best possible efficiency in the low to medium load range, while the rear one boosts dynamism. Together, they generate an output of 300 kW and a maximum torque of 760 Nm.
Five driving programs are at the disposal of the driver with Comfort, Eco, Max Range and Sport pre-programmed into the system. With efficiency at its core, the Max Range driving mode enables the driver to dictate the recuperation levels by using the paddle-shifters behind the steering wheel.
Once the battery has been discharged, all ECQ 400 models will be equipped with a water-cooled onboard charger (OBC) that has a capacity of 7,4 kW, making it suitable for AC charging at home or at public charging stations. Depending on the SoC (status of charge), the crossover SUV can be charged with a maximum output of up to 110 kW at an appropriate charging station. In around 40 minutes, the battery can be charged from 10-80% SoC.
