It has taken only a few days for the highly camouflaged Mitsubishi XRT Concept to be rendered without the visual trickery that conceals the exterior aesthetic of the bakkie. Being renders, these don’t serve as an official indication of what the next-generation Triton could look like but whatever is going on here sure seems menacing.
So without further adieu, here it is. What could very well be Mitsubishi’s next-generation Triton wearing a masculine exterior worthy enough to rival the likes of the most formidable bakkie competition. With the moniker currently in its fifth generation, being on offer for almost a decade, the timing to introduce a new iteration of the long-standing nameplate is nigh. Debuting at the Bangkok International Motor Show in Thailand last week, the production model will be offered for sale in the South-East Asian country ahead of other foreign markets.

Back to the rendering from Kolesa.ru then shall we? The Russian automotive platform was rapid in rendering a potential production model of the XRT Concept, which will presumably be a continuation of the Triton as mentioned. The front fascia boasts the iconic Dynamic Shield design language, which is portrayed on all Mitsubishi models. This includes a split headlight configuration with angular and masculine lines feeding into the fenders and bonnet of the beefy bakkie.
Boasting Ralliart stickers, the XRT Concept is naturally endowed with some more rugged exterior components including a snorkel mounted onto the front right A-pillar and a set of spare tyres in the bin. The rollover hoop has also been replaced with a more conventional iteration that would likely make its way to more entry-level models. What has remained however are those chunky-looking A/T tyres which will expectedly serve the Ralliart team in their endeavours in the 2023 Asia Cross Country Rally going forward.

No official specs or information on the model has been provided to the press other than the fact that an updated diesel powertrain will propel the Triton bakkie forward. Rumours suggest that it will arrive with a revised ladder-frame chassis, shared with the Navara which could make this bigger and more practical than before.
