Remember the rumoured high-performance Ford Focus RS500 (which, sadly, never reached production)? Well, the folks at UK-based firm Mountune have revealed their RS-based hyper hatch, dubbed the m520.
For the record, the standard model's 2,3-litre EcoBoost mill, churning out 257 kW and 440 N.m of torque (the latter from a low 1 600 r/min.), does not lack in power.
But the tuner thought the hot hatch could do with some extra grunt and tweaked the turbocharged four-pot to produce a whopping 382 kW and 700 N.m of torque, sent to all four corners via a six-speed manual gearbox.
According to the Brentwood-based firm, the increase in output has been achieved by fitting an in-house-configured BorgWarner EFR-7163 turbocharger, recalibrating the ECU, adding an uprated fuel pump and fitting revised camshafts and valve train.
For those wanting something tamer, Mountune offers the m450 package, which ups engine output to a still significant 331 kW and 580 N.m. This kit includes upgrades such as a “specifically engineered” BorgWarner turbocharger and a high-flow downpipe.
How much does it cost to turn your Focus RS into a hyper hatch? The full-blown m520 conversion will set you back £5 974,99 (around R110 000), while the m450 will cost around half of that at £2 950,00 (about R55 000). You will, however, need to supply the firm with the RS-badged hot hatch...
