The new Aston Martin V12 Speedster has been revealed, arriving as a 300 km/h roofless two-seater that does without a windscreen.
Just 88 units will be built, with pricing set to start at £765 000 (that’s nearly R15-million) and deliveries scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2021.
The Gaydon-based firm says the newcomer uses its latest bonded aluminium architecture, drawing elements from both the DBS Superleggera and the Vantage to create a “unique platform”. The bespoke body, meanwhile, is constructed “almost entirely” from carbon-fibre.
Power comes from the firm’s front-mid-mounted twin-turbo 5,2-litre V12 petrol engine, which here generates a healthy 522 kW and 753 N.m. The twelve-cylinder unit is linked to the rear axle via a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission (with a limited-slip differential).
Aston Martin claims the V12 Speedster will hit 100km/h from standstill in 3,5 seconds before topping out at an electronically limited 300 km/h. Yes, without a roof.
The firm also created a bespoke stainless-steel exhaust system exiting centrally into the diffuser surface at the rear to deliver what it describes as “an even more rousing, characterful sound”.
The V12 Speedster employs independent double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension with coil springs and adaptive damping. It rides on 21-inch forged centre-lock alloy wheels, while carbon-ceramic brakes measuring 410 mm up front and 360 mm at the rear are standard.
Inside, you’ll find “structural” satin carbon-fibre, hand-crafted saddle leather, some chrome, a dash of aluminium and even 3D-printed rubber. Ahead of the passenger is a removable leather bag, while Aston says there’s extra storage space under the rear bumps.
