Audi has revealed a coupé-style version of its electric crossover, with the e-tron Sportback featuring a sportier persona than its standard sibling.
The e-tron Sportback is the same length, width and height as its conventional counterpart but the sloping roof supported by the steeply raked D-pillars cuts rear headroom by 20 mm. Boot space, too, is slightly limited by the exterior styling.
However, the vehicle's slipperiness through the air has been improved from the standard model's drag coefficient of 0,27 to an even more impressive 0,25. This allows for an improved range of 446 km on a single charge (some 10 km more than the standard e-tron).
In 55 Quattro guise, the e-tron Sportback boasts 265 kW and 561 N.m, granting it a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 6,6 seconds. Switching to "boost mode" increases the peak outputs to 300 kW and 664 N.m for eight seconds, which improves the acceleration time to a claimed 5,7 seconds. This model features an asynchronous electric motor on each axle and a 95 kWh battery system.
The e-tron Sportback can also be specified in 50 Quattro form, with outputs of 230 kW and 540 N.m. In this variant, range comes in at 347 km on a single charge, while the obligatory sprint time is listed as 6,8 seconds.
Audi has also introduced its new digital matrix LED headlamp setup on this model. At the centre of this technology is a small chip containing one million micromirrors, each which a length of just a few hundredths of a millimetre.
And Edition One model will be offered at launch, finished in "Plasma Blue" paint and shipping in S line trim. This model includes virtual side-mirrors, faux-aluminium attachments, model-specific 21-inch alloy wheels, orange brake callipers and a panoramic sunroof. The cabin is fitted with a B&O premium sound system and special seats upholstered in Valcona leather.
