BMW will use this year’s Paris Motor Show to unveil a concept that will preview the 2017 BMW X2, according to reports.
The crossover-coupe concept will be almost production-ready, claims Autocar, adding that sales of the new X2 should commence in the second half of 2017.
The X2, of course, will be based on the second-generation X1, and will follow the same formula that led to the creation of the X3-based X4 and X5-based X6. So that means somewhat more aggressive styling and a lower, swooping roofline.
Its close relation to the X1 means the latest niche-filler will run on the Munich-based brand’s UKL platform, which will also underpin the upcoming MINI Countryman. Expect the engine line-up to mirror that of the X1.
Autocar adds that, according to “marketing insiders” at BMW, the X2 will target buyers who seek a sporty hatch, but also desire a higher driving position.
