The new Ford Bronco Sport has been revealed, based on the Kuga and positioned as a baby brother to the new ladder-frame Bronco variants.

In North America, top-spec versions of the fresh-faced Bronco Sport are offered with a turbocharged 2,0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine set to produce 183 kW and 373 N.m. There’s also a turbocharged 1,5-litre EcoBoost petrol unit expected to generate 135 kW and 258 N.m.

Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard, with some variants offering tiller-mounted paddle shifters.

Despite being based on the Kuga and thus featuring a unibody construction, Ford says the Bronco Sport has “off-road performance at its core”, providing solid footing on “sand, snow, mud, rocks and more”.

High-spec derivative boast what the Blue Oval brand calls an “advanced 4x4 system” with a twin-clutch rear-drive unit and a differential lock feature. The system is able to divert virtually all rear-axle torque to either wheel.

All models feature independent front and rear suspension, with flagship derivatives furthermore gaining “uniquely tuned” front struts with hydraulic rebound stops. In addition, Ford says the 46 mm monotube rear shocks are “among the largest in the class”.

Inside, you’ll find Ford’s Sync3 system running through an eight-inch touchscreen. Top-spec models feature washable rubber flooring and silicone-sealed control switches.
