Hyundai has released the first official details of its upcoming Kona N, while also showing a camouflaged version of the high-performance crossover.
The Korean firm has confirmed the new Kona N will be powered by a turbocharged 2,0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine. While peak outputs have yet to be released, the figures are likely to be similar to (or even match those of) the recently refreshed 206 kW/392 N.m i30 N.
Like the hot hatch, the Kona N will be available with an eight-speed (wet) dual-clutch transmission, along with launch control. Hyundai furthermore promises an “emotional” soundtrack from the sports exhaust system.
“We’re excited to expand the recipe for success we’ve developed with the i30 N and, most recently, with the i20 N to one of our most popular SUVs on the market today,” said Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, vice-president of marketing and product at Hyundai Motor Europe. “The addition of Kona to the N family will bring our high-performance brand to the next level.”
Till Wartenberg, vice-president and head of N brand management and the motorsport sub-division at Hyundai Motor Company, described the new Kona N as the “first hot SUV from the N brand”.
“As a hot SUV, it will have plenty of versatility as well as the driving pleasure like any other N vehicle. Enthusiasts will enjoy taking this car anywhere; from road to the track,” Wartenberg said.
Stay tuned because Hyundai says more details will be announced “in the coming weeks”...
