Jiangling Motors South Africa has launched its new JMC Vigus 5 double-cab bakkie on local shores.

The Chinese bakkie is offered in both 4×2 and 4×4 forms, with the single LX trim level including items such as leather seats, rear parking sensors, cruise control, electric windows, air-conditioning and an audio system with Bluetooth functionality.

Power comes from a Ford-sourced 2,4-litre turbodiesel engine (using the TDCi suffix) worth 103 kW and 310 N.m. This oomph is directed to the driven wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.

The Vigus 5 measures 5 382 mm long, 1 907 mm wide and 1 800 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3 085 mm. The fuel tank holds 68 litres, while the braking system includes discs all round. The standard 16-inch alloys, meanwhile, are shod in 265/70 R16 rubber. ABS (with EBD) and dual airbags ship standard.

Exterior paint colour choices include red, silver, white and dark grey. A three-year/100 000 km warranty and a five-year/60 000 km service plan are also part of the deal.

So, what about pricing? Well, the 4×2 model will set you back R308 000, while the 4×4 derivative is priced at R365 000.
