New Mercedes-AMG A35 Sedan revealed with 225 kW!

Yes, there’s a new entry-level performance sedan from the folks over at Affalterbach: meet the Mercedes-AMG A35 Sedan.

The reveal of this new model follows the unveiling of the hot hatch version in September 2018. Like that hatchback, the A35 Sedan draws its urge from a turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine sending 225 kW and 400 N.m (the latter between 3 000 and 4 000 r/min) to all four corners via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The firm promises an engine sound “typical of AMG”.

So, what sort of zero to 100 km/h time are we looking at here? Well, Mercedes-AMG claims a figure of 4,8 seconds (one-tenth tardier than the hatchback), along with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

The all-wheel-drive, four-door sedan features AMG’s signature twin-louvre grille, a special front apron (with “flics” on the air intakes), a new front splitter and various silver chrome trim elements. It rides on “aerodynamically optimised” 18-inch light-alloy wheels in twin-spoke design, with 19-inch items optionally available. Like the A-Class saloon on which this performance variant is based, the A35 Sedan boasts a useful luggage capacity of 420 litres.

Inside, you’ll find the Stuttgart-based firm’s latest MBUX multimedia system, with the “widescreen cockpit” offering two displays under one shared glass cover. There’s also a new AMG steering wheel, complete with a flattened lower section, perforated leather in the grip area and red contrasting stitching.

An adaptive damping system will be optionally available, giving the driver the choice of three suspension control modes, while the high-performance braking system includes four-piston fixed callipers and 350 mm discs on the front axle and one-piston sliding callipers and 330 mm discs at the rear.
