Nissan has unwrapped its new Rogue in North America, effectively giving us our first look at the fourth-generation X-Trail.
The new model has adopted Nissan’s latest design elements, including a floating roof and a fresh interpretation of the “V-motion” grille. Expect the new X-Trail to look virtually identical (though it’s not yet clear exactly when the newcomer will arrive in South Africa).
The Rogue also gains a new split-level lighting arrangement up front as well as an active grille shutter to control airflow into the engine bay. Interestingly, Nissan says the body measures some 38 mm shorter than the outgoing model.
In the United States, the Rogue will be offered exclusively with a naturally aspirated 2,5-litre four-cylinder petrol with 135 kW (up from the 126 kW offered in the X-Trail here in South Africa) and 245 N.m (up from 233 N.m). A continuously variable transmission will ship standard.
The new model furthermore gains revised electric power steering (with a quick gear ratio) along with a new multi-link suspension setup at the rear. Front-driven variant feature three drive modes, while all-paw models boast five.
Inside, you’ll find new “NASA-inspired zero gravity” low-fatigue spinal support seats as well as three-zone climate control. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and wireless smartphone charging are on the cards, as are a full-colour 10,8-inch head-up display, a 12,3-inch digital cluster (or 7,0-inch item on lower-spec models) and a 9,0-inch touchscreen display.
