New Nissan Z Proto: hear the (manual) 370Z successor start up and rev!

By: CAR magazine

Nissan has released yet another short teaser video of its upcoming Z Proto, a sportscar concept set to preview the eventual 370Z successor.

This latest clip confirms a six-speed manual gearbox (for the prototype, at the very least) and also gives us an idea of what the Z Proto will sound like.

We hear the sportscar start up and see the driver slot the manual cog-swapper into first. The driver then leans on the throttle, giving us a listen to the engine note. There’s also a quick look at the alloy wheel design.

Expected to wear the 400Z badge, the new sportscar will reportedly ride on a tweaked version of Infiniti’s rear-wheel-drive platform, as used by the Q50 and Q60, and take on the Toyota GR Supra. An earlier report suggested the 400Z would furthermore borrow the Q60’s twin-turbocharged 3,0-litre V6 petrol engine.

For the record, that engine generates 298 kW in the all-paw Q60; it remains to be seen what sort of peak power it would offer in the 400Z.

The Nissan Z Proto is scheduled to be revealed on 15 September 2020.
