Opel South Africa has revealed full pricing for its new Corsa hatchback range, which now comprises three derivatives.
In January 2021, the German firm’s local arm launched the new Corsa in “Edition” form. Now Opel SA has added a variant on either end of the line-up.
The range now kicks off with the base Corsa 1,2 for R274 900, while the Corsa Edition 1,2 now starts at R294 900 (up slightly from the launch price of R289 900). Finally, the auto-equipped Corsa Elegance 1,2 Turbo tops the line-up at R386 900.
As a reminder, the base Corsa and Corsa Edition each employ a naturally aspirated 1,2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine driving the front axle via a five-speed manual gearbox. The three-pot generates 55 kW and 118 N.m, sipping fuel at a claimed combined rate of 5,8 L/100 km.
The Corsa Elegance, meanwhile, upgrades to a turbocharged 1,2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine sending 96 kW and 230 N.m to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission (yes, the same arrangement available in Peugeot products such as the new 2008). With a claimed combined fuel consumption of 6,3 L/100 km, Opel says this variant will hit 100 km/h from standstill in 8,7 seconds before topping out at 207 km/h.
The new Elegance flagship model features various safety and driver assistance features, such as a 180-degree reverse camera, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, forward collision alert, front pedestrian detection and collision mitigation braking. Heated front seats, a digital instrument cluster and LED headlamps with high-beam assist are also included.
For the record, the base model makes do with 15-inch steel wheels and a five-inch touchscreen display, while the mid- and high-spec versions upgrade to 16-inch alloys and a seven-inch touchscreen. The base and Edition derivatives furthermore feature drum brakes at the rear (the Elegance has discs all round), “grained” black exterior trim (as opposed to the flagship’s gloss items) and halogen headlamps.
A three-year/120 000 km warranty and a three-year/45 000 km service plan are included across the range.
