Porsche has expanded its Taycan electric saloon line-up with the addition of a new 4S variant.
Slotting in below the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S, the new 4S (which, like its siblings is all-wheel drive) will be available in two battery sizes, delivering up to 390 kW with the single-deck 79,2 kWh Performance battery fitted and up to 420 kW with the two-deck 93,4 kWh Performance battery Plus specified.
Interestingly, both variants of the Taycan 4S accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in a claimed 4,0 seconds, before topping out at 250 km/h. But while the claimed range of models with the Performance battery is 407 km, the Performance battery Plus boosts the figure to 463 km, says Porsche.
With a permanently excited synchronous electric motor on each axle (as well as a two-speed transmission site at the rear), the drive architecture comprises the same main technical highlights as on its model siblings.
The permanently excited synchronous item on the rear axle of the 4S has an active length of 130 mm, making it 80 mm shorter than the corresponding drive component on the Turbo and Turbo S. The pulse-controlled inverter used on the front axle in the 4S, meanwhile, operates with up to 300 amps, and the inverter on the rear axle with up to 600 amps.
Distinguishing exterior features of the Taycan 4S include its aerodynamically optimised 19-inch wheels and red-painted brake callipers. Six-piston fixed-calliper brakes on the front axle (with internally vented 360 mm cast iron brake discs) are standard, while the rear items measure 358 mm and work with four-piston brakes.
The front apron, meanwhile, features a model-specific design, while side sills and a rear diffuser in black ensure further visual differentiation. As standard, the Taycan 4S comes with a partial leather interior as well as front comfort seats with eight-way electrical adjustment. Adaptive air suspension is also included.
