The all-new Toyota Avanza has been unveiled in the Indonesian market with a bold new face and catalogue of modern comfort and safety features. The third-generation model does away with its rear-wheel drive platform and adopts the group’s Daihatsu New Global Architecture underpinnings.
As a result, the all-new Toyota Avanza rides on a fully monocoque chassis rather than the previous unibody. With this, it sports a front MacPherson strut and rear torsion beam suspension with front and rear stabilisers. Stopping power is provided by a front set of disc and rear drum brakes.
Where dimensions are concerned, the MPV measures 4 395 mm long, 1 730 mm wide and 1 665 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2 750 mm. Despite the body being longer, its turning circle diameter has increased slightly to 9,8 metres.
Power for the all-new Toyota Avanza is sourced from an entry-level 1,3-litre four-cylinder or flagship 1,5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with the former delivering 72 kW and 122 N.m and the latter, 78 kW and 137 N.m. Both engines make use of a five-speed manual gearbox while a CVT is available for the flagship model.
Enhancing the element of safety for the all-new Toyota Avanza is the standard inclusion of traction and stability control as standard together with ABS with electronic brake distribution and assist, two airbags, ISOFIX and hill start assist.
Key features included on the flagship Toyota Avanza consist of a 9,0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 4,2-inch TFT display in-between the analogue instrument clusters. The lower-trim models get a 7,0-inch infotainment.
No news regarding a local introduction for the new Toyota Avanza has been confirmed by our South African arm but it is worth noting that last month, the seven-seater Toyota Rumion was introduced as our official replacement for the Avanza range.
