Back in February 2019, the new Toyota Quantum was revealed. Now we have pricing for this latest model (also known as the HiAce overseas) ahead of its launch in South Africa.
The nine-strong range starts at R473 900 and runs through to R613 500.
As we’ve already reported, the new Quantum gains added safety features, a fresh engine, improved comfort and better specification (plus a change from the “cab-over” configuration to a “semi-bonnet” design). While the Ses’Fikilie minibus model (based on the outgoing Quantum but set to be renamed HiAce locally) will continue to be produced at Toyota’s Prospecton plant in KwaZulu-Natal for the foreseeable future, Toyota SA says these new Quantum variants are being imported.
Locally, the sixth-generation Quantum will be available as a three-seat van in long- and super-long wheelbase configurations, as well as a six-seat crew cab in long-wheelbase form. The bus range, meanwhile, will comprise 11-seater (long-wheelbase) and 14-seater (super-long-wheelbase) versions.
In South Africa, the new Quantum range will be offered with a solitary engine option: the 2,8-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel unit also doing duty in the Hilux bakkie and Fortuner SUV. In the Quantum, this engine will be offered exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, with outputs of 130 kW (or 115 kW in the case of the 14-seater) and 420 N.m.
A range of accessories (from a stainless steel nudge bar to a tow bar with rear step kit) will be offered locally. Panel van and crew cab models will be offered in Ivory White and Quicksilver Metallic, while the two bus derivatives furthermore gain the option of Light Blue Metallic.
A nine-service/90 000 km service plan with intervals set at 12 months or 10 000 km ships standard, along with Toyota’s three-year/100 000 km warranty.
