The new Volkswagen 8 Golf R has been given a major engine upgrade at the hands of HGP Turbo. How does 327 kW sound?
Sporting the EA888 turbocharged 2,0-litre, four-cylinder engine as found in a number of other VAG products, the turbo specialist has added a number of revisions to achieve the higher power output.
As standard, the all-wheel-drive hot hatch delivers 235 kW and 420 N.m of torque. But to turn up the intensity, HGP Turbo has installed a modified series turbocharger together with an adapted ECU, a large-volume turbo suction hose, tweaked dual-clutch transmission (with changes to both the shift programme and the clutch pressure) and a K&N filter element.
As a result, the engine puts out 327 kW and 564 N.m.
HGP Turbo quotes the cost of the package as €9 800, including installation (that’s approximately R173 500). The tuner says this kit is available for other Volkswagen Group models sporting the same version of the ubiquitous EA888 unit.
