The new Volkswagen T-Cross is set to arrive in South Africa at some point in the third quarter of 2019. And now the local arm of the German brand has announced a few details about the SA range.
Although pricing has yet to be revealed, VW SA has previously stated the range will start at under R300 000.
At launch in South Africa, the T-Cross will be powered by the Wolfsburg-based firm’s familiar 1,0 TSI engine, delivering 85 kW and 200 N.m (and mated exclusively to a seven-speed DSG transmission). The turbocharged three-cylinder petrol unit will facilitate a sprint to 100 km/h in a claimed 10,2 seconds, along with a top speed of 193 km/h and claimed fuel consumption of 4,9 L/100 km.
In the fourth quarter of 2019, VW SA says it will add a 1,5 TSI three-cylinder unit offering 110 kW. And in the first quarter of 2020, an entry-level 1,0 TSI engine will arrive, sporting 70 kW.
Three specification levels will be offered locally. The familiar Trendline trim will feature 16-inch steel wheels, LED daytime running lights, LED taillamps, split folding rear seats, electrically adjustable (and heated) side mirrors, tyre pressure monitoring, a 6,5-inch “Composition Colour” display, “Titanium” black seats, black carpets and a “ceramique” headliner.
The Comfortline model adds 16-inch “Belmont” alloy wheels, black roof rails, front foglamps, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, multi-function display, parking sensors (front and rear), cruise control, the firm’s “Light and Sight package” and a front centre arm rest.
Optional features here will include the R-Line exterior package (with 17-inch “Manila” alloy wheels), the Beats sound system, wireless smartphone charging, the “Composition Media” infotainment system (with App-Connect), the “Discover Media” system (with navigation), VW’s digital Active Info Display, a parking assistance function (with reversing camera), adaptive cruise control, LED headlamps and a removable towbar.
Finally, the flagship Highline trim offers “comfort sports seats”, wireless smartphone charging, a driving profile selector, “Climatronic” air-conditioning, LED headlamps, the “Composition Media” system (with App-Connect) and 18-inch “Cologne” alloy wheels as standard.
Optional extras on the Highline include the R-Line exterior package (here with 18-inch “Nevada” alloy wheels), a “Design Package” in orange, the Beats sound system, the “Discover Media” system (with navigation), Active Info Display, adaptive cruise control, a removable towbar and “Titanium Black-Energetic Orange” seats.
