In the heart of Bothaville, at the renowned Nampo Harvest Day, Mitsubishi Motors South Africa unveiled its highly anticipated flagship gem – the next-generation Mitsubishi Outlander.
This revered occasion marks the local debut of the brand’s flagship model and the team at Mitsubishi cannot contain their excitement. Jeffrey Allison, the General Manager of Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa, exudes enthusiasm as he shares his anticipation for the unveiling. Nestled amidst the largest agricultural show in the Southern Hemisphere, Nampo Harvest Day seems like the perfect setting to reveal the Japanese automaker’s creation to the South African market.
As the curtains draw back, the new Outlander stood immediately identifiable as a Mitsubishi, embodying the essence of the brand’s ethos. Its modern design commands attention, while its all-wheel drive capabilities epitomize excellence. With seating arrangements designed to accommodate seven occupants comfortably, the Outlander assumes its rightful place as the pinnacle of Mitsubishi’s impressive range.
The exterior blends the sleek lines and Mitsubishi’s signature Dynamic Shield which creates a commanding presence. Complementing this formidable look are LED front fog lamps, LED sequential turn signals, and striking daytime running lights. The Outlander’s robust character is further enhanced by its front and rear skid plates, silver roof rails, rear spoiler adorned with an LED high-mounted brake light, and magnificent 20-inch alloy wheels.
Mitsubishi, ever mindful of personalization, offers an array of accessory packages for the Outlander. Customers will revel in the opportunity to modify their vehicles to their liking, with body kits that seamlessly integrate with the exterior design, boasting a fit and finish comparable to the factory-fitted components.
Underneath its captivating exterior, the all-new Outlander harbours a 2,5-litre DOHC engine, delivering 135 kW of power at 6 000 r/min and 245 N.m at 3 600 r/min. Mated to an eight-speed CVT transmission, this combination provides what is said to be seamless acceleration, smoother gear changes, and an unparalleled riding experience. Mitsubishi claims the CVT’s ingenuity ensures the engine operates optimally at all times, resulting in improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. This all equips the Outlander to sip a mere 8,1-litres per 100 kilometres on the combined cycle which is impressive for a vehicle of this stature.
The Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system fitted to the Outlander highlights its off-road prowess. This groundbreaking system maximizes vehicle control by seamlessly distributing power to all four wheels. Four distinct driving modes delicately balance economy and performance, while S-AWC supplies optimal torque to the rear wheels, enhancing traction, stability, and control. Integrated with Active Yaw Control, the Outlander utilizes braking techniques to distribute torque between the left and right wheels, further solidifying its off-road dominance.

Step inside the Outlander, and a world of luxury and comfort awaits. Its generous proportions, with an exterior length of 4 710 mm, translate into an exceptionally spacious interior. The cabin’s thoughtful layout, featuring seven seats, offers versatility to accommodate any and every need. A four-spoke leather steering wheel, adjustable both in tilt and telescopic dimensions, welcomes the driver, adorned with cruise control buttons and paddle shifters.
The driver’s experience is further elevated by the presence of a 12,3-inch Digital Driver Display, flanked by an eight-inch Smartphone-link display on GLS models or a nine-inch unit on Aspire derivatives, complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. Ensuring comfort for all occupants, a three-zone Automatic Climate Control system regulates the temperature.
No pricing on the Outlander for South Africa is available yet although Mitsubishi will reveal further details closer to its launch date.
