The Nissan Terra, which makes use of the firm’s F-Alpha ladder-frame platform as applied to the current generation Navara, has been launched in the Thai market with a brand new engine option and a number of new features.
Under the bonnet of the Thai-spec Nissan Terra is the firm’s YS23DDTT turbodiesel 2,3-litre four-cylinder mill. This unit, which was developed by Renault, makes use of an aluminium block with a compression ratio of 15,4:1 and bore and stroke of 85×101,3 mm. Thanks to a pair of single variable-geometry twin-turbochargers, the SUV boasts a power output of 140 kW and 450 N.m of torque. This is sent the 4×4 system via a seven-speed automatic transmission.
Further revisions made to the Thai-spec Nissan Terra includes a new multi-functional D-shape steering wheel and multi-link rear suspension to improve its dynamic balance while turning when carrying heavy loads or traversing off-road terrains.
The Nissan Terra will be manufactured at the brand’s Samut Prakan Plant in Thailand alongside the Navara which the brand says reinforces its position as the ASEAN manufacturing hub for the brand.
Included as standard on this offering in Thailand are key features such as LED signature headlamps that increase brightness by up to 35 per cent over the previous design and 18-inch alloy wheels. Within the cabin, revisions have been made to the seat cushions and back shapes.
The space between the passenger compartment and rear luggage is also adjustable and allows for the second and third rows to be reconfigured into a variety of styles. These include theatre style seating, using the auto tumble seats that fold by pressing its one-touch `fold and tumble’ remote switch on the center console. For added convenience, an electronic tailgate with an auto lift gate sensor has been fitted.
Rear passengers are treated to an 11-inch screen with HDMI or Smart TV stick connectivity. This is mated to a Bose Premium Audio System. All occupants can also simultaneously charge multiple devices thanks to the addition of five USB ports located in the front and center console, second and third rows. For the first time, the new Terra has wireless charging technology installed in the front console that provides charging power of up to 15 watts.
