Porsche’s 911 Turbo and Turbo S will receive an extra 15 kW and a revised design as it enters the new year. Customers will have the option of receiving the Turbo in both hardtop and convertible versions with the bi-turbo 3,8-litre six-cylinder engine.
The standard 911 Turbo will deliver 397 kW thanks to modified inlet ports in the cylinder head, new injection nozzles and higher fuel pressure. The 911 Turbo S will deliver 427 kW with the help of some new turbochargers with larger compressors.
A boost function has been added to improve the engine’s response in dynamic driving situations. It maintains the charge pressure when the accelerator pedal is released for a short amount of time by interrupting fuel injection while the throttle valve remains open. The engine then reacts with minimal delay when you press the accelerator pedal again.
The revised 911 Turbo S will receive a 0-100 km/h time of 2,9 seconds with a top speed of 330 km/h (12 km/h higher) while the 911 Turbo reaches the 100-km/h mark in just 3,0 seconds with a top speed of 320 km/h (5 km/h faster than the previous model).
With these figures the Turbo coupes are claimed to achieve a fuel economy of 9,1 L/100 km and the convertibles 9,3 L/100 km (0,6-litres less fuel per 100 km for all versions) This is due to an advanced electronic engine and transmission management with revised gear change mappings.
Porsche has given the new Turbo a ‘GT sport steering’ inspired by the 918 Spyder. It comes with a mode switch as standard which consists of a rotary ring with stepped positions to select one of the four Normal, Sport, Sport Plus or Individual modes (Similarly seen in the 911 Carrera we recently drove in the Canary Islands).
The Sport Chrono Package comes with a response button which preconditions the engine and gearbox to make it as responsive as possible. With this ‘Sport Response’ the Turbo can produce optimal acceleration for up to 20 seconds in order to conduct overtaking manoeuvres.
German markets will have the new 911 Turbo models as early as January 2016 at the following prices (VAT and country-specific equipment included):
