BMW’s entry-level SUV, has been a favourite in South Africa for quite some time now. With its robust appearance and functional versatility, the 2023 BMW X1 embodies an authentic experience of both freedom and independence in daily driving. The classy and compact exterior design details of the model display its SUV identity clearer than ever in its third model generation.
The new BMW X1 will be available in a choice of petrol and diesel engine and in early 2023, the all-electric BMW iX1 xDrive30e will follow. Starting at the bottom; the X1 sDrive18d is powered by a turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, producing 110 kW of power and 360 N.m of torque. The X1 sDrive18i on the other hand has a 1,5-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine delivering 115 kW of power and 230 N.m of torque. All the power is linked to a seven-speed Steptronic transmission with a double clutch as standard and will be channelled to the road through the front wheels. All model variants come as standard with 18-inch light-alloy wheels as fitted on xLine and M Sport cars, although these models are also available in 19-inch and a first for the BMW X1, 20‑inch wheels.
The 2023 BMW X1 brings advances for the interior including extra space for those on board and their luggage, The X1 is a two-row SUV, but its slightly larger exterior dimensions have translated to extra space inside the cabin. Inside the X1 has five full-size seats and its load-carrying capacity can be utilised in a wide variety of ways, with enhanced practicality and most prominently, a fundamental upgrade of the infotainment system. The interior is updated with a more modern design and includes the latest tech features such as the brand’s iDrive 8 infotainment setup, Cruise Control with brake function, speed limit assist and lane departure warning with lane return also comes as standard and is capable of analysing the prevailing road situation very precisely.
The new model offers a much broader selection of standard equipment compared to what was offered by its predecessor. In the past, you would most likely find these upgrades in sophisticated models. The new BMW X1 represents an immediately recognisable leap forward with tech.
