Ford has added a new flagship variant to its Tourneo Custom range, with the Limited derivative sitting atop the now three-strong line-up in South Africa.
Priced at R637 200, the Tourneo Custom Limited is offered exclusively in short-wheelbase configuration, slotting in above the long-wheelbase Ambiente and Trend derivatives. The Limited model has a wheelbase of 2 933 mm and measures 4 972 mm nose to tail, some 367 mm shorter in both cases compared with the long-wheelbase Ambiente and Trend variants.
Like its siblings, the Limited model is powered by a 2,2-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. But in the case of this new flagship offering, the engine delivers 114 kW (compared with 74 kW and 92 kW in the case of the Ambiente and Trend, respectively). Peak torque, meanwhile, is 385 N.m (again, up on the 310 N.m and 350 N.m outputs of the lower-spec models).
Ford claims this makes the Limited “ideally suited” to carrying a full complement of passengers or making full use of its claimed gross payload rating of 939 kg (24 kg more than the LWB models). Braked towing capacity comes in at 1 600 kg, with the unbraked figure pegged at 750 kg.
The local arm of the Blue Oval brand says the newcomer would be an ideal vehicle for “active families” while also being suited to serving as an “upmarket shuttle providing first-class travel”.
The Limited model features body colour finishes for the side mouldings as well as new 16-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. It also gains a towbar as standard, along with trailer hitch assist and trailer sway control systems.
Inside, you’ll find “Salerno” partial-leather trim on seats in all three rows, with the front items boasting heating functions. Furthermore, the front passenger pew features manual lumbar adjustment while the driver’s perch offers ten-way power adjustment.
Like the two other variants, the Limited model comes standard with a four-year/120 000 km warranty and a six-year/90 000 km service plan (with intervals of 15 000 km).
